When the idea was planted the work started. Who wanted to join? Where were the stores and places we could use? Did we need money to fix the places? We went door to door in the houses in which the old stores used to be. The old shoemakers place became a children books antiquarian. One antiquarian opened in the house of the old grocery store Håkanssons. The book dealer with the idea had opened in the old café. The old stores were brought to life and by the summer of 2011 we were able to open Borrby Book town the first book town in Sweden! In the beginning EU contributed with money since it became a rural development project.
Since the start some antiquarians moved on, some are added, and a lot has gathered in the common Bokhuset. We now have nine different book dealers there and we are open Thursday to Sunday – all year around!
Some has changed – especially in the bookshelves of course – but a lot is the same. Previously read books, found by new readers, new book presented by its authors, book circles, writing groups and a whole lot of book talk! Simply an alive Book town!
